I wish to make a clarification on the Indian Casino topic. While it looks like it has provided a source of income and riches to various tribes, it comes at a cost of greed. I heard this from a podcast of This American Life, the topic was Tribes.
The story I am familiar with is of a tribe called The Chukchansi. Currently about 900 members. One of many small tribes in California. The Chukchansi has been embroiled in turmoil to the point of kicking out members of the tribe under the guise of legitimate lineage concerns. The term used is ‘disenrollement’. However, the fact of the matter, it boils to greed and money. The Casino revenue is split amongst tribal members leading tribal councils to abuse there power, refuse to leave office (less earnings from the casino), and firings of employees who step out of line (the first step before they are exiled out of the tribe). You do the math, less tribal members, more money in ones own pocket.
I hope The Chukchansi are the exception to the norm, but I thought you should know. It not always greener on the other side.
